biography

Hub Boesten was born in Heerlen, The Netherlands, 1937. He made his first oil painting when he was nine years old and since then he has never stopped sketching and painting the things that fascinate him: people, landscapes and industrial scenes.

He taught himself his early drawing and painting techniques, since his father wanted him first to become an engineer, which he studied at the Technical University of Delft. During his studies he continued to paint, and made study-trips for this purpose to Turkey and Spain. During those years he had solo exhibitions and also took part in several group-exhibitions. He works today in his studios at Weert, in Holland, and also at Torrita di Siena.

The basis for his painting in acrylic and oil is direct observation of his subject, and the mastery of the technique to produce a physically durable painting. Usually he starts with a sketch and translates this into a painting. Sometimes expressive realistic but sometimes not: a subject can become altered, even alienated, in a rather abstract manner. He does not believe in a single style only, but prefers to be free to work according to the state of his inner being at the moment.

Hub Boesten’s work is mostly in private collections in both The Netherlands and abroad.
